Repair Efforts Underway to Address Sewer Line Break in Bay Point

Delta Diablo (District) is currently working to repair a sewer line break that is causing an ongoing, significant overflow of untreated wastewater (i.e., raw sewage, preliminarily estimated at approximately one million gallons per day) into the surrounding marshland area immediately east of the District’s Shore Acres Pump Station (SAPS) (located at 1725 Port Chicago Highway, Bay Point, refer to figure below). At 3:30 pm on Monday, December 2, 2024, the District identified a break on the pressurized 16-inch diameter forcemain discharge line from SAPS and immediately conducted initial site investigations. The District initiated excavation and repair activities with an emergency construction contractor at 5:30 am on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, with an immediate focus on restoring wastewater flow conveyance through either an interim patch repair or installation of a temporary bypass pumping system, which is expected to be placed in service by early Friday, December, 6, 2024. No disruption of wastewater conveyance services to local residents in Bay Point is expected as a result of this line break.

The District has notified appropriate regulatory agencies regarding this incident and is meeting all response actions required for SSOs, including sample collection in nearby receiving waters and posting of warning signs.
